MLTS COURSE MODERATION

All Course Providers and Directors are Moderated at least every 3 years by their respective Boards (MLTS, MLTE etc), to ensure that the courses that they provide are at the required standard. The following is an extract fom the latest moderation report by Allen Fyffe of MLTS, when he came out with us in January 2011.

Description of activities seen
The group was met in the Corrie Cas car park and in view of the weather – thawing with strong winds, Pete decided to go to Coire na Ciste while the others went into Corrie Cas. It turned out that Pete’s decision was a good one as there was some shelter in the gully and on the West Wall. Good use was made of the approach with candidates give leadership roles and navigation and avalanche conditions considered. The work on the steeper slopes on snow anchors and belays was all good, relevant and well delivered. The candidates had plenty of chances to practise the various techniques and discuss what was being taught.

Candidate and provider feedback
Candidates all received good instruction and appropriate training and opportunity to practice their skills. Pete was keen to discuss the awards, standards and the candidates.

Individual Candidate needs - if any
All candidates seen had appropriate backgrounds and experience and were enthusiastic about the training. Lots of good training and appropriate and constructive feed-back.

Conclusion
The training was being well run in relaxed, professional and friendly manner. Everything was very satisfactory.
